Jackson Canyon Eagle Watch

February 18 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

I originally scheduled the Jackson Canyon field trip for Monday, Feb 20.  The weather prediction for Monday is for good weather for increasing the snowpack, but poor weather for seeing eagles.   The best weather looks to be Saturday, Feb 18.  It should be windy, not snowing and in the 30’s.  We will meet at the Wyoming 220 turnout at the turnoff for Goose Egg Rd. at 4:00 PM.  This is a really energetic hike, but only a few miles long.  We will climb less than 1,000 feet but the trail will be a mixture of deep drifts and windblown bare ground.  We will be coming back down in the dark, so bring a light.  The eagles no longer use Jackson Canyon as a roost (the 2006 fire destroyed too many roosting trees), but they fly right over the roost on their way to the current roost which we think is on the edge of The Glades.  In January, the BLM saw only 3 eagles right as it got too dark to see, but the thought is they picked too nice a day.

You still ought to call me if you are joining us since we will leave as soon as everyone is there.  Stacey Scott 307-262-0055
