Casper Christmas Bird Count 2018
December 15, 2018
Mark your calendars for the Casper Christmas Bird Count, 15 Dec, 2018. Murie has Kings Corner reserved for 7 to 8 AM and 5 to 9 PM on Dec. 15.
The Casper Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15. We will meet at Kings Corner on the corner of 1st and Beech in Casper from 7 to 8 Saturday morning, and the compilation of the count and supper will be at the same place after 5:00 that evening. We really need all the people that we can get in order to cover our circle well. Going on a CBC is lots of fun, and you never know what you will find. Also, these counts are citizen science at its best. Some groups will be mostly driving with a little walking, while others will be really energetic with lots of hiking. Even if you aren’t completely comfortable identifying all the winter birds, we can team you with some more experienced birders. Please call Bruce Walgren at 234-7455 or Stacey Scott at 262-0055 for additional details.
For the 119th year, the National Audubon Society is organizing its annual Christmas Bird Count. Between December 14th and January 5th, tens of thousands of volunteers will participate in counts across the Western Hemisphere.
The Christmas Bird Count is the longest-running wildlife census in the world. Each individual count takes place in a 5-mile-wide circle and is led by a compiler responsible for organizing volunteers and submitting observations to Audubon. Within each circle, participants tally all birds seen or heard that day—not just the species but total numbers to provide a clear idea of the health of that particular population.
