The Bates Hole Christmas Bird Count is scheduled for January 1, 2019. We will meet at 7:30 AM at Charlie Scott’s house on the Two-Bar Ranch. This count is one of the few true rural counts in the country, which makes it very interesting. While we usually see fewer species than the Casper Count, we can make up for that in interesting quality. The parties usually meet at noon before covering another section of the circle, so we can easily accommodate those who can only come for half a day. Also, Bates Hole rarely has much wind, so when you wake up in Casper to strong winds and not very nice weather, remember that Bates Hole is probably calm, sunny and beautiful. Directions:

1. From Casper, head west (WY-220). Go for 18.0 mi.
2. Turn left onto State Highway 487 (WY-487). Go for 3.9 mi.
